Sometimes music communicates and transcends what the spoken word cannot.
“What If I Told You”, by Gabriel Kahane, is a 21st century art song snapshot of an Amtrak dining car conversation between a White man of financial and intellectual means, traveling around America to experience the “suffering of the working white man”, and a Black woman of similar stature who’s also riding the train down south because and/or in spite of her high-level accomplishments, it’s still unsafe for her to drive to her homestead, unaccompanied. “They don’t need a hood, or a cross, or a tree.”
Join us for this special closing plenary with Durham’s singer-songwriter Shana Tucker and be moved by the power of music to enact change.
