
DJ She’s A+ (IG: @shes_a_plus) is the resident monthly DJ every second Friday at the James Beard nominated lounge, Salud Cerveceria.
In July 2025, she was the opening DJ for the 116th NAACP National Convention in Charlotte, NC. As the opening plenary DJ, she welcomed and energized attendees, as well as partnered with the production team to transition speakers and panels on and off the stage. She has served as the national conference DJ for the Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO) Learning Conference, The Center for Black Health and Equity and the NC NAACP. She has a residency at Fonta Flora Brewery Optimist Park, and enjoys spinning regularly at locally owned businesses and nonprofit events in Charlotte.
As a fundraising consultant, April’s spent the last 20 years serving as a political and non-profit fundraiser, as well as a non-profit executive leader. Recently, she led the institutional giving and foundation fundraising operations at Way to Win and The Funders’ Committee for Civic Participation (FCCP). Prior to that, she served as the Executive Director of LEAD NC (C4) and LEAD NC Institute (C3), organizations that seek out, recruit and train community and civic leaders to run for state or municipal office, or serve in non-elected or appointed leadership positions, respectively.
Her time at LEAD NC followed three years as the North Carolina Executive Director of the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP), a national maternal and child health organization that pairs vulnerable Moms with a nurse who provides regular in-home support from early in pregnancy to child’s age 2.
From 2007-2012, April raised upwards of $15 million for President Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns, inaugurations, and nominating conventions. After a year as the Illinois Finance Director on Obama 2012, she returned home to Charlotte as the Senior Advisor to the Mayor for Convention Activities at the Charlotte in 2012 Democratic National Convention Host Committee. She has also founded and run a fundraising and development consulting firm which provided consulting services to local and statewide non-profit organizations, candidates, and committees. April is a proud Howard University alumna, a Board member of North Carolina Parents as Teachers (NC PAT), and a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Global and Charlotte chapters. In April 2024, she presented on inclusionary fundraising practices at the AFP ICON Global Conference in Toronto, Canada.
